Roger criticises delay in the announcement of DVLA deal: “The uncertainty is hurting Post offices” he says
Birmingham MP, Roger Godsiff, has openly criticised the delay in the announcement of the award of a £600 million contract to provide driving licences and tax discs as this creates an uncertain future for hundreds of post offices across the country.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVL A) had been expected to award the contract in October but now this will not be decided until the end of November.
Roger said: “This contract is essential to the future of those who run our post offices and if it is not awarded exclusively to the Post office hundreds of branches may be forced to close across the country.”
The main concern is that the contract may end up being run by a private contractor and new laws would have to be passed for the company to issue tax discs.
