Give Every Child a Chance - Don’t rush to the English Baccalaureate
Roger has signed up for the campaign being organized by the NUT asking Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, to extend the consultation period before the implementation of the English Baccalaureate. His proposal would replace GCSEs in all the English Baccalaureate subjects (maths, English, sciences, a language and history or geography).
Roger said: “I do not believe the current proposals for English Baccalaureate Certificates will ensure a broad and balanced curriculum and that it is a mistake to ignore creative and vocational subjects.
The creative industries contribute massively to the wellbeing of the UK and these measures seem destined to erode them.”
He concluded: “The Government is also planning to introduce these proposals with a great deal of haste and is not fully engaging with those who have both an interest and expertise in these matters.”
