Shaker Aamer still detained in Guantanamo Bay despite US release clearance
In light of recent reports of riots at Guantanamo Bay amongst eighty or so prisoners scheduled for release but still held in detention by the US authorities, Roger has written to William Hague, Foreign Secretary asking him to raise the issue of the continued detention of British resident, Shaker Aamer.
Shaker Aamer, who has a British wife and children has been imprisoned without trial by the US in Bagram Airforce Base and Guantanamo Bay for over eleven years.
Roger also tabled the following questions for written answer the day before the Westminster Hall debate:
To ask the Foreign Secretary why if the US authorities have cleared British resident, Shaker Aamer, for release on two separate occasions he is still in Guantanamo Bay?
