Roger urges Birmingham communities to apply for lottery funding to mark the centenary of the First World War
With a year to go until the centenary of the UK entering the First World War, Roger is urging his constituents to consider applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for grants for community projects to learn more about the war.
HLF is making at least £1million a year available until 2019 as part of the First World War: then and now programme for small, community grants. It will provide grants of £3,000 to £10,000 to help groups across the UK to explore, conserve and share their First World War heritage and deepen their understanding of the impact of the conflict.
Roger said: “Sadly, one hundred years on from the beginning of the First World War, the world is still mired in conflict. These grants are a good opportunity to understand more about the history of WWI and its impact on ordinary people living in Birmingham one hundred years ago. The ‘Great War’ was supposed to be the war to end all wars, but looking back at history shows that war only creates more wars.”
Roger has written to secondary and primary schools in Birmingham Hall Green, telling them about the grants available to research and deepen their understanding of the impact of the conflict.
