No to austerity for Greece, says Roger

Roger is one of the signatories to a letter published in the Guardian which opposes any further austerity for Greece and calls for debt cancellation.
He commented: “The people of Greece have already suffered through years of incredibly harsh austerity. All this has brought to their country is more poverty and misery, with the economy shrinking and failing to function properly due to the savageness of the cuts.
“I do not believe that there is any moral or economic case for inflicting more austerity on Greece. Any more cuts will be counter-productive, and will only cause the country and its people to become poorer and even less able to pay these debts.
“Any further bail-out funds which Greece receives should now go towards investment, support for the poorest and building a productive, functioning economy and a tax system in which the richest and big business pay their fair share. These funds should not be gobbled up by the country’s creditors with no benefit at all to Greek citizens.”
