Roger calls on Cadbury's to stop dodging corporation tax

Roger tabled an Early Day Motion condemning Cadbury’s failure to pay UK corporation tax on its profits. Mondelez, the company which owns the chocolate company, paid no UK corporation tax on its 2014 profits of £96.5 million. It avoided these taxes by offsetting its tax liability against interest payments due on a bond on the Channel Islands stock exchange.
In the Early Day Motion, Roger called on the House of Commons to agree that “this blatant avoidance of UK taxes by a company which is operating and making a profit in the UK is utterly wrong, and should not be permitted”. He also pointed out that to make these profits Cadbury relies on essential infrastructure and services, including health, transport and education. These services are provided by the UK taxpayer, and companies which fail to pay their fair share of UK corporation tax are essentially robbing the taxpayer.
Roger commented: “I would support and, indeed, encourage UK consumers who choose to boycott Cadbury until it pays its UK taxes in full! Giant multinational companies which make huge profits needs to stop expecting a free ride from the hard-working taxpayer and start contributing their fair share.”
