Roger backs Brummie Bonds

Roger has given his support to the innovative idea put forward by the new Leader of Birmingham City Council, John Clancy, to invest public sector pension pots in new housing and infrastructure projects in the city.
Said Roger “This is just the sort of new thinking and innovative idea that Birmingham needs. sing the £11 billion West Midlands Local Government Pension Fund would transform infrastructure projects in Birmingham and the West Midlands Region and is very much in the tradition of Joseph Chamberlain who, when Mayor and Leader of the Council 150 years ago, transformed the City of Birmingham by a massive public buildings programme.
"I am also very supportive of Councillor Clancy’s ideas to raise money by selling 'Brummie Bonds' because this would be a genuine way, not a cosmetic way as proposed by the Government, of enabling local and regional authorities to have real economic power and to pay investors a decent return while the money is used to build new homes and other much needed infrastructure projects.”
