Roger condemns barbaric and inexcusable attacks on Syria

Roger has condemned the brutal attacks on an aid convoy and a clinic in Syria as an utterly unacceptable crime and violation of international law.
At least 20 people died in an attack on a UN aid convoy on 19 September, which is believed to have been carried out by Russian air forces. The convoy was on its way to bring essential aid to Syrian civilians struggling to survive in the vicious civil war. Two days later, medical workers were killed in an attack on the village of Khan Touman which destroyed the clinic where they were working.
The bombings are threatening the fragile ceasefire brokered between the different groups in Syria, and as they seem to have been deliberately targeted at aid workers they may also constitute war crimes.
Said Roger: “These barbaric attacks have taken a barbaric war to new lows. While nobody has admitted liability, there is strong evidence that they were carried out by Russian forces. They have undermined the attempts to get a lasting ceasefire, and violate the laws of warfare. Those responsible must be held to account.”
