UK Government sneaks out decision to force fracking on local communities

The UK Government sneaked out its decision to force fracking on local communities in England as Parliament went into summer recess, making it more difficult for MPs to raise their objections. Hydraulic fracturing is an extreme and dangerous form of fossil fuel extraction, which risks groundwater pollution, earthquakes and, most dangerously, continuing investment in carbon infrastructure at a time when we urgently need to support the transition to clean, green energy. Local communities have strongly protested fracking, and local councils have voted against it—only to be over-ruled by a government which used to claim that it supported localism!
Said Roger: “The UK Government have ignored the views of local citizens, local government, British people, climate scientists and energy experts to force fracking on this country--and during a heatwave that could be a taste of things to come if climate change goes above 1.5 degrees. It is utterly idiotic to keep on pushing dirty, dangerous fossil fuels and to attempt to invest in new hydrocarbon infrastructure, when clean energy such as wind and solar is cheap and dropping rapidly in price.”
